Kayaking for Children with Autism and Their Parents
In an effort to expand experiences for those with autism and offer new recreational opportunities, POAC, with funding from the Graeme Preston Foundation for Life, is presenting an hour of kayaking for children with autism and their parents. These will be tandem Kayaks so that parent and child can ride together. This event is for children and young adults with autism and their parents only. Space is limited and POAC members will be given first priority for registration. There will be two sessions to choose from, 2:00 to 3:00 pm and 3:00 to 4:00 pm. Click here for a registration form.

Drop Off Program for Children with Autism and Other Special Needs
POAC Autism Services and Jackson Helping Hands are joining to provide an evening drop off program for children with autism and other special needs. This program is for children aged 6 to 12 years old. Participants will participate in arts and crafts, games, movies, cooking, and fun. If your child with special needs is looking for something to do, you may want to sign him or her up for this program. Space is limited and all participants must be able to handle a drop off situation. Each applicant will be screened to insure a good match with the program. There is no charge for this program. Click here for an application.

Mommy/Daddy & Me Program
Sometimes we attend a workshop or read a book or article about how to teach and reach our children with autism and we think we understand the procedures.  Then when we try to apply them to our own children, we sometimes get stuck.  Even thought we have internalized the concepts, we still may need some guidance and advise to really be able to help our children in a meaningful way.  To this end,
POAC, in partnership with Children's Progress Unlimited (CPU), and with funding from The Ocean First Foundation, is offering a Mommy/Daddy and Me Program.  This program   is intended to give parents of preschool aged children (3 to 6 years old)  the basic tools needed to begin teaching and relating to their young children with autism in a naturalistic setting such as play.  The program is run by a board certified behavior analyst and certified special education teacher and runs for two hours per week for 5 weeks on Wednesday afternoons in Brick, NJ.  POAC and CPU are currently accepting applications for sessions beginning this fall.  There is no charge for this program.   Please email info@poac.net if you would like an application.
