This session is two hours.

Children with autism do not acquire language in the same way as their typically developing peers.  Many children are taught alternative means of communication.  Sign language is the response form that most closely resembles vocal speech and there is evidence that some children’s spoken language is enhanced by the use of sign language. Why, then, does it seem to fail in so many autism programs?  The answer lies in the way sign is being taught.

 

This workshop will:

  • Explain correct teaching procedures to get effective results for your child or student
  • Highlight the most common mistakes and pitfalls which cause programs to fail
  • Explain how to determine a vocal versus a non-vocal learner
  • Present strategies for including technology in your program
  • Provide resources to enhance programming
