Students with disabilities have certain rights under federal law, the Individuals with DisabilitiesEducation Act (IDEA). In this presentation, parents will learn about the foundations of special education law, including the right to a Free, Appropriate Public Education, (FAPE), Least Restrictive Environment(LRE) and the right to services that are designed to produce meaningful results. Participants will learn about identification and evaluation of students with disabilities, the IEP process, placement and related services, Extended School Year services and other important principles. We will also discuss the importance of monitoring the IEP throughout the school year, and what to do if there is a dispute or disagreement. The 90-minute presentation will include a Q&A session at the end.
